Gyokusen was both a painter and an educator who, in 1891, published a woodblock-printed art book entitled Gyokusen Shūgachō (i.e., Picture Lessons by Gyokusen). Aspiring artists could trace or copy pictures in the book to help them develop their drawing skills. The thirty-one pictures of flowers and (or) birds included in the book are shown in this gallery.
